We started the term with an unexpected challenge when a problem with the local electricity network meant we would have no heating on the second day of term. Rather than closing, we moved to Selwood School, where we were warmly welcomed and quickly felt at home.
The day began with our usual phonics and reading sessions to give the children a familiar and settled start to learning, and Owls Class were even able to continue with their street dance practice in the hall. As the day went on, lessons were blended with opportunities to tour the school and take part in Forest School sessions. At playtime, although children could stay in a designated area, most chose to mix with Selwood pupils, enjoying the chance to play, explore and make new connections.
A particularly special moment was seeing former Berkley pupils seek out their younger buddies, as our Year 4s traditionally support Reception children. It was a lovely reminder of the strong relationships our children build and the confidence they show, even in new situations.
We’ll be returning with a more organised structure to help strengthen these connections, building on such a positive experience. The children’s feedback said it all — many told us it was the best day.
