Our Vision and Values
“We are a small school with big ideas – taking a creative approach to help every child flourish, thrive, and reach their full potential.”
At Berkley First School, our vision and ethos are inspired by the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:14–16):
“You are the light that gives light to the world… Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works.”
We believe every child is a unique individual – full of potential, guided by faith, and part of a supportive and caring community.
As a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, our values are deeply rooted in Christian teachings. We follow the Church of England’s Vision for Education – “Deeply Christian, serving the common good” – and work closely with our local church, St Mary’s in Berkley.
Our Core Values
We aim to develop children who are:
-
Kind and respectful towards others
-
Resilient and confident in facing challenges
-
Curious and creative in their learning
-
Responsible and thoughtful members of the school and wider community
These values are woven through our daily life – from the way we learn and play, to how we support one another and celebrate achievements. Whether it's through acts of kindness, teamwork in the classroom, or quiet moments of reflection, our children are encouraged to “let their light shine” in all that they do.
