Let Your Light Shine

Welcome to Hedgehogs Class Page

Welcome to Hedgehogs Class – our wonderful Reception and Year 1 children! This is where your child’s learning journey at Berkley First School begins and continues. In Hedgehogs, we build strong foundations through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and early Key Stage 1 curriculum. Our days are filled with hands-on learning, outdoor play, storytelling, creativity, and plenty of opportunities to explore and discover.

We also begin to introduce children to important ideas like online safety, how to be a kind friend, and what it means to be part of a school community. Hedgehogs are encouraged to be curious, confident, and caring—setting them up for a happy and successful start to school life.

We believe that learning continues beyond the classroom, and we really value working in partnership with our parents. Reading at home every day, sharing books together, and completing simple learning tasks help reinforce what we do in class. We’ll keep you informed with regular updates, and we welcome your involvement—whether it’s through home learning, reading practice, or simply chatting with your child about their day.

Maths/Time Tables

In order to improve the practice of times tables within our school, we use TTRockstars.

Children can practise 2, 5 and 10 times tables to begin with and move on when confident.

You can access the resource by going to TTRockstars.com.

Alternatively, you can download the free app through the app store or google play.

Your child has been given their own username and password.
